Alice & David Neaves of Cambridgeshire sold their house on HouseWeb after an estate agent failed to get a buyer and advised them to drop the price. Here is their story:

"Originally we had an estate agent value our home - they told us they would have no problem in obtaining the price we wanted - and after a few weeks sent people along who were complete time wasters. After a few weeks a friend pointed me in the right direction - YOUR SITE. We were both quite sceptical about selling privately - until a friend brought in an article in The Observer about HouseWeb. This convinced us to try and see if it would work.

On visiting HouseWeb I was very impressed with the layout and how simple it was to follow. So I enter our property details - as easy as that!

We sold our house quickly after getting a number of good enquiries. Initial contact with the prospective buyers took place only two weeks after we submitted out house advert.

We received the full asking price for the house - the estate agents did not think we would be able to get this figure - so we have saved about £7,000.

My advice to others is think about the money you can save. HouseWeb is a great site - you have no pressure from estate agents asking you to drop your price. Also, people who contact you are genuine in the fact that they want to know more about your home.
