“We're glad that we did it and we'll do it again.”
Rachel Lane from Henley-on-Thames had always wanted to cut out the agent….
“This was the first time we had sold privately, although
it was something I'd wanted to do for a long time. I was a
bit anxious about how it would go, but thought there was no harm
in having a go.
We chose Houseweb because I had read an article in a
finance magazine that recommended them. We also advertised in a
couple of local papers and in a couple of local newsagents (that
cost £1 a week!). It was good to be able to direct people
to the website by printing the link to our HouseWeb advert.
We were also disappointed by the estate agents valuation
which really prompted us to try HouseWeb. At the end
we actually sold for about £15,0000 more than the Estate Agent
valuation! We also saved ourselves £4000 in fees.
If you can find the time to show people round at reasonably
short notice or get somebody to do it for you, why bother with
an agent?
There
are few things we would do differently next time –
- Only
talk seriously to people who have already sold their
house or are in rented accommodation.
- Ask
for a deposit from the purchaser to ensure their interest. 5%
- 10% to be placed with the solicitor.
- In
future we would make more use of our solicitor to deal with
buyers’ questions, we feel we became a bit too involved
with our purchasers because we were selling privately.
We are really glad that we decided to sell using
HouseWeb and we will use them again for our next project.”
