Suzanne Jordan told us how she sold her house without the help of an
“I bought the house many years ago with the intention
of moving in, re-furbishing and selling on. But instead I let it
out and eventually took the decision to sell it. I hadn’t sold
privately before but a friend had sold her house on HouseWeb a
few years ago and I wasn’t in any hurry to sell so I decided
to sell online. No reservations.
I chose HouseWeb because of cost – the
Platinum package, which includes 20 photos and a For Sale Board,
only cost me £199 including VAT and there were no other costs
or commissions to pay.
Putting the advert together was quite easy,
but I am fairly computer literate – I don’t know what this
process would be like for an absolute beginner, but HouseWeb’s
Customer Services are always there to help.
I sold the house within 5 months for more
than the agents’ valuations. They valued it at between £158k
- £160k. It was sold for £165k and I saved approx £2,000 - £2,500
in agent fees.
Selling privately was probably less
stressful than the estate agent route– the majority of estate
agents are stress-inducing in themselves! Selling privately was
a breeze though I was under no pressure to sell and buy at the
same time which helped – no chain. Good photos also help, as
do dressing the house well and keeping it tidy and pleasant
I think if you are in a hurry to sell, use
as many estate agents as possible. If not, definitely try
online. You can of course do both at the same time!”
