“I
hope Estate agents' days are numbered!"
Cindy
Creedon from Dorset told us about her first experience of selling
privately
“We decided to sell our property because we wanted to run a
Bed & Breakfast and could not do it from our current house.
After about a year with an estate agent we had had no joy in
selling so started to think about selling privately, even though
we hadn’t tried it before.
We came across HouseWeb in an article in the Daily Telegraph.
Putting the advert together was easy and the whole process was
far less stressful than using the agent. We saved ourselves
about £6,000. I would certainly tell anyone thinking of selling
their house not to bother with Estate Agents.
They don't do enough to earn their huge fee. I think
Estate Agents are a very closed shop and I hope their days are
numbered!

My tips for selling privately would be:-
- Make
sure you are absolutely honest in your description, then you
will not waste potential buyers' time.
- Talk
on the phone first with buyers before arranging viewing to
answer any questions.
- Really
'big' your home up when showing people round. Take them
to the best room first for the 'wow' factor. Really
focus on the good points like light, location etc.
- Ask
viewers to let you know what they think, good and bad. You
may only need to paint one room to get that sale!”
