I
was relocating to Bristol and as I had sold my last house in the
Docklands myself, I did not even consider using an agent this
time.
I
can’t see any reason to pay an estate agent for doing very
little, particularly as there’s nothing that I could not do
myself. I also find selling privately less stressful as there
is no middle person to muddy the water. I can negotiate
directly with the purchaser and get things moving more quickly.
I didn’t even get a valuation from an estate agent, as
my neighbour had sold a very similar house to mine and she told
me the details. I also kept an eye on local sales and prices.
I’d
seen HouseWeb mentioned in some newspapers and magazines article, so
decided to use their website to advertise, and I must say it was
dead easy.
My tip for selling quickly is to keep your property neat and
tidy, put away excessive clutter and re-paint garish colours.
I would say “DON’T!”
to anyone thinking of using an estate agent. I had my first
offer within 3 weeks of advertising on HouseWeb and saved about
£4,000 plus VAT.
