“Selling
privately was no more stressful than selling through an agent,
plus it gave me a nice warm feeling to save the money!"
Michael Parker tells us how he went about selling his mansion in
Wales.
“We
decided to sell our large, ancient 1600’s house because it was
simply too large for us to continue to maintain on our pensions.
Fabulous though it was, it was without double glazing, making it
impossible to heat and so not very comfortable for our
retirement.
We started thinking about selling privately
because we were having no success with our Estate Agents, who
had massively overvalued the property. We had previously sold a
property privately and had no reservations about going it alone.
We researched
private sales companies on the internet and found HouseWeb,
which seemed to offer a personal service with all the
requirements I needed. I played the system to my advantage by
using several estate agents and insisting on multiple agency
agreements. My advice to anyone selling a property would be
"NEVER
AGREE TO A SOLE AGENCY AGREEMENT".
They will not
work as hard as they are not in competition with each other, and
you will not be able to use other means of selling, such as
HouseWeb. Plus you can use the agents if you want to do the hard
work for you i.e the description, the valuation, the room
dimensions etc.
It took about
6 months to sell the house and we saved over £5,000 by using
HouseWeb. The process was quite simple and no more stressful
than selling through an agent, plus it did give me a nice warm
feeling to save the money!"
