Ways to speed up your home moving process
Moving is not only a huge expense, it also takes up a significant amount of your time and effort. That is why many would rate it as the most stressful thing that they can do - more stressful than divorce or a new job.
But, it isn't something we can avoid, is it? We move for a multitude of reasons, whether that be because our family is growing and we need more space or we must relocate for the perfect job role.
It is always worth it once you have unpacked and are settled in your new home with the stress a distant memory. However, you need to get through the seemingly never-ending process of moving out of one house and into another first. So, with that in mind, here are a few ways to speed up the process:
Take your time
Sounds counterproductive, doesn't it when you want to speed up the process? But, taking your time will actually mean that you don't make any mistakes - which could cost you a huge amount of time in the long run.
Of course, time isn't always on our side during a house move, but take as much as you can - do your research and try not to rush into any decisions.
Create a checklist
There is a lot to do and remember during the moving process, forget something vital or even seemingly minor and it could set you back a significant amount of time.
Write down everything you need to do and the order that it all needs doing in - then you can tick it off as you go, ensuring that you don't forget anything. This should avoid any unnecessary issues that could take a long time to resolve.
Keep on top of your paperwork
There is a lot of paperwork involved with a house move - make sure you keep this organised and stay on top of it. Create folders to store it in so that you don't misplace anything and ensure papers are signed when they need to be.
Start packing early
Start packing as soon as you can - this means you can sort through and clear out the clutter - so you aren't wasting time moving things that you don't need.
Take it a room at a time and start by packing the things you don't use on a day-to-day basis and work towards the essentials.
Move your belongings to a storage unit
You could use a storage unit to make the process of actually moving your belongings quicker and easier. Store them here before, during and after the move so you don't have to get everything out and then in all in a day.
Many storage companies don't just provide you with a space to keep your belongings they also provide extras to help you even further, such as transport.
Look for 'no chain' buyers
If you can buy and sell without a chain - do. A no chain buyer doesn't have to wait for their property to sell so they can buy yours, which can speed up the process by weeks if not months.
Stay in contact
Make sure you keep in contact with all the necessary people - so you can keep on top of any developments and quickly sort out any issues should they arise.
You will be out of your old house and into your new home before you know it!
