Life Assurance - Questions to Ask

Do you quote more than one company’s products?

It is common-sense to get more than one quote, especially as some companies are "tied" to an Estate Agent and can only quote one company’s policies.

What are the "Key Features" of your policy?

Life Assurance providers are required by law to supply you with a document outlining the key features of your policy prior to you signing. The key feature must adhere to clear and plain English guidelines, so if there is something you don’t understand, ensure you ask.

What are the "Reasons Why" you have offered this particular policy to me?

A Life Assurance provider must provide you with a document prior to you signing explaining the reasons why they have selected a certain policy to offer to you. Make sure you review this and question anything that is not clear.

What if I change my mind after signing up for a policy?

By law, you have 14 days to change your mind (under the 1982 Insurance Company Act - Section 75). After 14 days, you can only cancel your policy by writing to the Insurer. In some cases, you are entitled to have repaid any money you have paid the company. Conversely, you will have to repay any amounts already paid to you by the company under the contract.
